My Pedagogy

I’ve spent a majority of the last 9 years of my life in the United States as an international student. Throughout this journey, I’ve skillfully navigated a myriad of spaces, confidently entered numerous audition rooms, and delved into various academic realms.

It's important to me that artists, in this case actors, are able to bring forward their most true and authentic selves; proud of the cultures we hold, and the identities and bodies we carry. For much of the history of this industry, immigrants, women, and BIPOC have been expected to conform to the limited scope of “the American theatre”, suppressing their uniqueness in the process.

However, it’s not solely about carrying the weight of representing an entire culture on your shoulders; instead, it’s about taking pride in and embracing your unique story and history, and infusing that into your work. The true essence of “the American theatre” should reflect the rich diversity and collective identity of all of us; breaking away from those historical constraints and allowing us artists to express ourselves authentically.

The Coaching Plan

(FOR MFA AND BFA AUDITIONS)

Once you’ve brought me on board, we’ll jump right into a session getting to know each other, so I can better understand your background and experience in the work. This way, I can craft a personalized game plan that meets your needs. Together, we’ll establish a proactive timeline so no one’s procrastinating!

My coaching sessions will cover two (2) crucial areas of your application process:

  1. The application itself, often considered the less exciting part for most artists. I’ll provide valuable assistance with crafting your personal statement and proofread your application meticulously so it stands out.

  2. The audition process; the heart of your journey:

    • Together, we’ll tackle monologue choices. Come in knowing what you like, or we can collaborate to find the perfect material that resonates with you.

    • Building technique around your approach to characters. Recognizing that monologues are just singular moments of a full arch of someone’s story, we’ll work on bringing depth and authenticity to your performance.

    • Audition preparation will encompass everything from the minute you check in, to the minute you leave the building. We’ll focus on enhancing your emotional and physical endurance, instilling confidence in bringing your true personality to the room, handling interview questions with ease, and much more.

    • Mock audition. As the final step in your journey, we’ll conduct a mock audition, ensuring you are fully ready to get the show on the road.
