Above the line Emmy Nomination Predictions
Finally, I want to shine a light on two young performers who really impressed me in very limited screen time this year — B.J. Minor, who played a young Mike Tyson in Hulu’s limited series Mike, and Sri Lankan actress Isuri Wijesundara, who guest starred as the lead in the Little America Season 2 episode “The 9th Caller” on Apple TV+. Both of them have the talent to succeed in this business, and I hope Emmy voters give their episodes a fair shot.

🎧I alternated between the physical book and the audiobook, narrated by Isuri Wijesundara. Let me tell you, you are in for a real treat with Wijesundara as the narrator. The way she was able to elevate this atmospheric novel and bring so much emotion with her words was truly remarkable. I highly recommend reading this one with your ears if you have the option.

Just over a half hour in length, these new episodes have a modest but enduring insight and empathy – start with Tinge Krishnan’s The 9th Caller, an alternately bittersweet and blithe struggle for recognition in a Sri Lankan clan.

The show is also a great vehicle for newcomers: Hanad Abdi, who anchors Episode 4 (“Camel On A Stick”), is an instantly believable and charming onscreen presence. Actor Isuri Wijesundara moved this writer to tears in Episode 3, “The 9th Caller.”

The best, most formally ambitious take on this tension this season is “The 9th Caller,” which structures itself around a weekend-long kiss-a-car contest that Sri Lankan-American Sachini (Isuri Wijesundara) participates in.
